Background

“To live by grace means to acknowledge my whole life story, the light side and the dark. In admitting my shadow side I learn who I am and what God’d grace means.'“ Brennan Manning.

Eva is bilingual and bicultural, spending most of her childhood overseas. She has an undergraduate and Master’s degree in Social Work from VCU. Eva has completed a certificate in Narrative Focused Trauma Care. Her work experience includes over 4 years of working in the anti trafficking field, SV/DV, as well as Foster care, refugees/immigrant population, and schools.

Her treatment approach with adults and adolescents is narrative focused, emotionally attuned, and attachment-oriented. She utilizes a variety of counseling methods to meet clients where they are and collaborate on goals that align with their objectives. These include Psychodynamic, Client Centered, Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Trauma Informed Care, and Story Work.

“I love to watch people heal and grow, becoming more connected to the fullest and most alive version of themselves. I find it an honor to join people in this process, walking with them through times of struggle. I believe deeply in the power of attuned presence as clients revisit stories of sorrow and trauma as well as goodness and rest. My hope is that whatever you bring to session will be met with warmth, curiosity, and wisdom. Above all, I deeply believe in understanding the uniqueness of each individual, and do my best to tailor my approach to my client’s specific needs, goals, and strengths. The counseling relationship is an alliance meant to empower growth and healing. It is in this context that you are invited to experience ways of relating to yourself, God, and others that are marked by increasing depths of truth, goodness, and beauty. I believe we experience rest and fulfillment through genuine connection and this is where healing and transformation occurs.”

What do you enjoy most about working with trauma?

“Our brains are extremely adaptable. Neuroplasticity, the brain's ability to form new connections, explains why we can rewire our brains to reverse damaging effects. During the healing process, you can rewire and retrain your brain to reverse the effects of trauma. Because of this, I find such hope in working through trauma. Often times when we hear the word Trauma, we think of big T traumas, witnessing or experiencing a deeply disturbing or life threatingng situation, such as natural disasters, war, neglect, sexual violence, or serious injury. Big T trauma can seem obvious. Little "t" trauma, any experience that overwhelms our ability to cope and continues to feel disturbing. Often little "t" trauma can be overlooked or minimized.”

What do you enjoy most about working with anxiety?

“Anxiety is highly treatable and there are many treatment options. I find hope in that statement alone. Anxiety can be an invitation to our bodies. It's a marker to show that something needs care. It is an honor to invite clients to deep and healing places when we engage what our body is holding. In session we cover mindfulness techniques, relaxation techniques, psychoeducation, and a variety of skills derived from CBT.”

What kind of improvements have you seen in past clients?

“Reduced anxiety - strengthening relationship with God, self, and others - Increased self awareness - Commitment to establishing and maintaining boundaries - Better sleep - Reduction in other physical symptoms - Feeling more confident and grounded.”

Why should someone struggling book an appointment with you?

“I'm a great fit for anyone who is struggling and hungry for something different in their life. I know processing trauma is not easy and most of us don't want to; but I have seen freedom, hope and breakthrough after reprocessing and identifying tools.”
