Background
Emily is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who takes a holistic approach to therapy. Her goal is to create opportunities for healing and relief. Emily received her Bachelor’s in Studio Art from Azusa Pacific University and her Master of Social Work degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2019. Since that time, Emily has provided mental health services to teen and adult survivors of sexual assault, underserved populations, and clients experiencing anxiety, depression, mental disorders, and the effects of trauma. She is passionate about helping clients of all ages utilize methods of healing that work for them. Emily is especially interested in using art as a means of therapy. “I see the act of creating as a natural way for us as humans to imitate God’s creative nature … what better way to heal from brokenness!” Her favorite thing about her job as a therapist is to witness those who have struggled with feelings of invalidation and lack of worthiness come to a place of understanding and wholeness.
Emily believes in the power of the Holy Trinity and prayer to facilitate ultimate healing. She has seen how God can work in miraculous ways to help people in their suffering. She understands the reality of living as a sinner and approaches her role as a therapist with humility.
Emily loves Psalm 62:1-2 “Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.”
Personal Art and Testimony
Emily has first hand experience using art as therapy in her own healing journey. After struggling with chronic pain for 5 years, God revealed through prayer that she had a benign tumor in her spine that was pressing on the nerves in her leg. In 2011 she had the tumor surgically removed and chose to use the event as inspiration for her senior art show. The art she created ended up being a powerful tool in which she found healing and closure. Many of her art pieces even included MRI scans. "Art helped me make sense of the trauma I had gone through.”
Family
Emily has been married for almost 10 years to her husband Joe. She and her husband have a rambunctious toddler and a dog who keep them busy. She identifies as a geek at heart and loves playing board games with her husband. Her other hobbies include being in nature, art, and baking!
